9th Annual SMOGFEST Art Exhibition and Silent Auction
Saturday May 1 - Sunday, May 30
Closing Reception - Saturday, May 29, 7:30pm
Milk Coffee Bar, 68 University Ave. W.
The Citizens Environment Alliance (CEA) has launched its 9th annual Smogfest to coincide with the traditional start of the summer smog season. Environment Canada designated Windsor the summer smog capital of Canada and since that designation the CEA has held a festival to focus attention on our air quality problems and solutions.
Throughout the festival there will be an art exhibition and silent auction held at the Milk Coffee Bar at 68 University Ave. West, in Windsor. Twenty-five artists are participating in the art exhibition and silent auction. A closing reception will be held for the art exhibition on Saturday, May 29th, beginning at 7:30pm at the Milk.
“Ultimately we want to stop the smog, improve air quality and save lives. We know the sources of our pollution problems and continuing with business as usual practices is unacceptable,” said Derek Coronado, Coordinator of the CEA. “Ontario currently has enough power available to shut down all of its coal-fired power plants four years early,” said Coronado.
The CEA is also promoting the Ontario Clean Air Alliance’s postcard and online petition campaign to shut down Ontario’s coal-fired power plants this year rather than waiting until 2014. The petition is available at http://www.cleanairalliance.org/petition. | |
